Taiwan to raise utility rates by up to 35 percent

Taiwan says it will end a long-standing government subsidy to raise electricity rates in a bid to conserve energy and reduce the island's carbon emissions.
The Economics Ministry said Thursday electricity rates will be increased by an average of 35 percent for manufacturing industries and between 10 to 25 percent for households, effective May 15.

The government already stirred a public outcry last week by raising gasoline prices by 10 percent.

President Ma Ying-jeou has pledged to reverse a decades-long policy using subsidies to keep fuel and electricity rates low. The policy has led to increased emissions and debts by the main utility firms.

また、一般家庭でも１０-２５％とのことですから、日本だったら到底認められない額です。
