蚊とテロ

 最近シンガポールが物騒になってきました。
 まず、ジカ熱。
 9/23 までに、393 人の感染者が報告されています。

 これにより日本外務省の発表する渡航危険情報が、9/2 に「レベル１：十分注意して
ください」に引き上げられました。

 次に、テロ。
 国際テロ指数というテロの発生危険度を示す統計データによると、シンガポールは、
最下位の124 位です（日本も同じく124 位）。

 この監視の厳しいシンガポールで、テロ企てるのは難しいと思ったのか、シンガポ
ールにほど近いインドネシアのバタム島から、テロを計画していたインドネシア人が
逮捕されました。

 18km 離れたバタム島の小高い丘から、マリーナベイ（マーライオンや、ベイサンズ
がある、シンガポールを代表するランドマーク）をロケット弾で攻撃する計画でした。
 専門家の話では、“ロケット弾で18 ㎞もの距離から正確な的は狙えない”との事で
すが、シンガポールがテロの標的になっているのは間違いなく、政府はテロ対策強
化に乗り出しています。

 最近では、ライフル銃を所持した警官が、MRT の駅や人の集まるショッピング街で、
パトロール、職務質問をしている姿をよく見かけます。

シンガポール前大統領と日本

 ちょっと前になりますが、シンガポール前大統領のＳ・Ｒ・ナザン氏が8/22 日、92 歳
で亡くなりました(７月末に脳卒中で倒れ入院であった)。

 報道されるナザン氏の風貌(インド系シンガポール人)から、勝手に、日本とは関わり
の少ない政治家と決めつけていましたが、実はそうではありませんでした。
 簡単にナザン前大統領と日本の関わりをまとめました。

 日本語堪能
 日本シンガポール占領時代に日本の警察で日英通訳として勤務
 It was the early 1940s, and the impacts and horrors of the Second
World War had reached Singapore. During the Japanese
Occupation (1942-1945), Nathan, in a twist of fate, managed to
master the Japanese language with the help of an
English-Japanese dictionary. At age 18, he started working as an
interpreter and translator to a high-ranking officer in the
Japanese civilian police.

 日本赤軍等企てたシンガポール事件を処理
 当時、防衛省の保安情報庁 (SID) 所長であったナザン氏は、日本赤軍
等との交渉にあたり、また自ら「保証人団」の団長としてハイジャック犯と共
にクェートへ。
 In exchange for the release of the hostages, a team of guarantors,
including Nathan himself, would be required to accompany the
hijackers and hostages throughout the flight. The incident was
successfully resolved on 08 February 1974 when the team of
guarantors returned to Singapore unharmed.

 He was Chairman of Mitsubishi Singapore Heavy Industries – a
ship-repairing and engineering joint-venture with the Mitsubishi
Group of Japan – from 1973 to 1986.

 ナザン前大統領の逝去に伴い、安倍首相も弔問のため来星しました。
 8/25、第6 回アフリカ開発会議（TICAD VI）に出席するためケニアを訪問す
る途上でシンガポールに立ち寄った安倍晋三首相、安倍昭恵夫人及び岸田
文雄外相が弔問。
