Arab League fails to agree on measures on Syria
Leaders of Arab League countries have expressed support for the UN-brokered peace plan on Syria. But they failed to agree on concrete steps.

They met in Baghdad on Thursday. It's the first time since 1990 that the meeting was held in the Iraqi capital. Authorities mobilized 100,000 troops to guard against possible terror attacks.

Topping the agenda was Syria, where the government continues to crack down violently on opposition forces.

The Arab leaders supported the 6-point plan proposed by UN envoy and former secretary general Kofi Annan. The plan includes a daily 2-hour ceasefire for humanitarian work and a ban on the use of weapons.

The Arab League released a statement after the summit pledging to help ease the unrest in Syria, but it failed to agree on measures to achieve this.

Libya and Tunisia demanded harsher action against the administration of President Bashar al-Assad. Syria's neighbors Iraq and Lebanon opposed further intervention.

Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari told reporters that the Syrian situation is already an issue for the whole international community. He said the issue can no longer be dealt by the League alone.

シリアって国あまり聞きませんが、すごいことになっているようです。
