US calls N.Korea's rocket launch provocative

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has criticized as highly provocative North Korea's announcement that it will launch a rocket carrying a satellite.
Clinton said in a statement on Friday that UN Security Council resolutions clearly and unequivocally prohibit North Korea from conducting launches that use ballistic missile technology.
She said such a missile launch would pose a threat to regional security. She added it would be inconsistent with North Korea's recent undertaking to refrain from firing long-range missiles.
Clinton called on the North to abide by the agreement reached with the United States in talks in Beijing last month. The two sides have agreed on a moratorium on test-launching long-range ballistic missile.
A senior North Korean official said earlier this week in New York that the country intends to comply with the agreement.
The announcement of the launch comes as the US government prepares to provide the North with 240,000 tons of food aid.
Clinton said the US administration is consulting closely with its international partners on next steps.
It's expected the US will work with other countries to press North Korea to cancel the launch.
