Taiwan lifts travel ban on Fukushima
Taiwan's President Ma Ying-jeou says his government will lift restrictions on traveling to Fukushima Prefecture.
Taiwan imposed the ban in response to the nuclear crisis following the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.

The Taiwanese president on Monday attended a reception held by the Japanese government's liaison office in Taipei. The event marked the first anniversary of the disaster.

Ma said all travel restrictions will be lifted except for areas in a 30-kilometer radius of the Fukushima plant.

He said the decision is designed to boost Taiwanese tourism to Japan.

Ma mentioned the more than 220 million dollars that Taiwanese people donated to Japan.

He said the disaster was a tragic event, but it created solidarity between the people of Japan and Taiwan.

The event organizers showed a TV commercial produced in Japan expressing gratitude to Taiwan.
