Honda mileage dispute settled for $170 million
A class-action lawsuit in the United States will cost Honda Motor 170 million dollars in compensation.
About 200,000 owners of Civic hybrids, sold between 2003 and 2009, found that the gas mileage was worse than what was advertised.
Under the settlement approved by a California court on Friday, Honda will pay 100 to 200 dollars to the owners, depending on the model they bought.
The company will also give them the right to receive a discount when buying a new Honda car.
The settlement will cost Honda 170 million dollars in total.
Honda has maintained that it only indicated the highest mileage figure measured by the Environmental Protection Agency.
Following the court's decision, Honda issued a statement, saying it is pleased that the case was settled in a way that is fair to its customers, and that the company will continue to do its best to win their trust.
