A spokesman for the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Zhao Qizheng, said on Friday that officials are investigating Wang and have him under supervision. The spokesman did not specify the accusation, but Wang is apparently facing corruption charges.

Wang was dismissed as Chongqing's Public Security Bureau Director on February 2nd. Four days later, he visited the US Consulate in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, and reportedly stayed there overnight. That visit triggered speculation that he may have sought asylum but been denied at the US mission.
