N.Korean TV reports on foreign media visit
North Korea's state-run television has reported on a visit by foreign media to a rocket launch site.
The country says it intends to launch a rocket carrying a satellite between April 12th and 16th.
Korean Central Television said in an extra news bulletin shortly after 11 PM on Sunday that about 60 journalists were briefed by officials at the new launch pad.
It said the foreign reporters saw with their own eyes the satellite and rocket, both of which are being used with transparency guaranteed to be at the maximum level.
The report said the journalists fully came to understand that North Korea's satellite launch is aimed solely at peaceful development and use of space.
The broadcast is seen as an effort by the country to emphasize to its public that the launch is for peaceful purposes.
It is also apparently designed to boost national prestige and the authority of the new leader, Kim Jong Un, by stressing heightened interest among other countries.
Japan, the United States and South Korea believe the planned launch is aimed at testing and demonstrating technologies for firing ballistic missiles.
